Friends, Christian should
have a peaceful, success and satisfied life. But we find, many Christians, even
Church leaders do not have such coveted life. Why? Why don’t we have such
blessed life? There must be something we lag behind, let us consider the
matter.
We know that by believing
God and accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, God has given us ‘eternal
life’, as the Bible says, “everyone
who believes ( in Jesus Christ ) may have eternal life in him.” (John 3:15).
But there is more than just
to have ‘eternal life’. Jesus said “ . . ….. I came that they might have life,
and might have it abundantly” (John 10:10).
Thus, we understand that all
believers have life, but not all have abundant life. To have ‘eternal life’ is
one thing and to have ‘abundant life’ is more than that. Jesus Christ came that
we might have life abundantly. If we don’t have this abundant life, we will not
be able to live a good Christian, spiritual life. Jesus, therefore, wants to
give us this abundant life, so that we may be like Him. Without it, the
Christian life becomes inane and meaningless.
To have abundant life, we must
have abundant resources, and the only unlimited source of life is in the Person
of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. So, Jesus says, “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the
truth and the life. No one
comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6).
To possess this abundant
life, we must abide in Him (Jesus Christ). Jesus says,
“I am the true
vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it
will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by
itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you
remain in me.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in
you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:1-5).
If you do not have abundant
life within you, you will soon yield to the fleshly life around you, as the Apostle
Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 3:1-4 –
“Brothers and sisters, I
could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly —mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among
you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans? For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow
Apollos,” are you not
mere human beings?” (1
Corinthians 3:1-4)
The fleshly life
is circumstance-controlled; the abundant life is Holy Spirit-controlled.
The fleshly life leads to defeat; the abundant life leads to victory in
Christ. Man seems to know everything about life except how to live it
abundantly.
Friends, let us not
be satisfied with anything less than living life abundantly and pray
continually and study God’s world daily.
Write ‘Amen’ if
you commit to study the Bible daily, at least few verses and pray constantly
asking God to give you abundant life. God bless you.
